This is just getting silly now, so lets clear up some common doubts -
BOTS - Automated scipts/macros that perform pre-recorded/programmed tasks such as going to position X attacking monster Y, using skill Z in a set pattern. From what I have read about them, these are used by certain "companies" and numerous copies of these bots are run at the same time and supervised by a single person.
Using automated scirpts is NOT legal by the End User Licence Agreement.
FARMERS - There has been great amout of debate (well, more like flaming) about its actual defination, as some people do it for "fun" some for "the challenge" but the majority still do it for the "loot."
This, belive it or not, includes all 55hp monks, wammo etc with no regard to race or colour.
It is speculated that some "chinese companies" employ people to run these farmers for long perids of time and sell the gold generated through these means on EBay and other "MMO Gold" sites.
But these activites are also conducted by American and European individuals, though in a much samller scale.
I would also like to point out that there is very little impact on the economy as a whole because of one section (such as the chinese farmers) as there are many more "general" farmers who are working their way to FoW armor or whatever perfect weapons they wish to posses. That being said, the real economy curruntly is restricted to a few perfect weapons with really rare skins (serpent axe etc). These items cannot simply be obtained by general farming.
I have not seen solo farmers in any green-item spawning area (except Kepkhet's Refuge) so there is no point in bringing greens in this. But I would like to say that greens were meant to be cheap anyways, but thats just my opinion.
Edit: "Mend Typo" spamage.

What I don't get is what are intangible, such as: "they are annoying", "ruins the economy", and "ruins the game" because I have yet to see why. What I DO get though is how some people might fear that Anet will nerf the troll area do to these bot/farmers and how there's an increasing hatred towards Chinese (might I add that Taiwanese are included in this category) in GW. Maybe YOU don't get it and are just joining the bandwagon. And I support these cheats, eh? How wrong can you be? Look what you made someone believe that they just HAD to send me a PM: (was a PM of some loser trying to sell gold for cash before mod deleted it)
Quote:
Nothing against you shinrinningu. We've had too many of these PM's floating around lately and we don't want to see more. If any of you receives one of these "gold-selling" PM's please inform a moderator as soon as possible. The person will be dealt with.
Thank you.

|
The economy is affected by many elements in this game, not just by farmers or botters. Besides, if these were really Chinese and Korean farmers/bots, lots of players will have a difficult time understanding them to even complete a deal. And as far as I can see, perfect mods on weapons are still worth a lot. Maybe you're the one who should do research.
Quote:
Look at it this way - i dont cheat i dont use bots and i have spent over 1500 hours in GW and only ever found a small handful of greens, now my greens are worthless because of farmers making them common, so all my hard work and playing the game fairly gives me little or no reward when i finally do find a good item. How is it that so many players say bots dont affect them?? are you thick????
|
So you're saying from farming all the way down in Droknars, these farmers/bots are reducing the prices of the greens you get from all the way down in the new Tombs, Sorrow's Furnace and the new Queen down in desert? Right... Maybe you forget these "fair farmers" or I'd like to call them, fellow players, also farm for these greens.
Quote:
Yes they spam but not through trade channel, and if you took the time to go see instead of throwing your oppinions here without any kind of research you would realise they dont spam the trade channels, THEY SPAM LOCAL CHANNEL, they force anyone using the district to have to mute the local channel or leave - so you say if you dont like it change district - why the frell should i change district because of bot using cheaters spamming the local channel, why should spammers get priority over fair players?????????
|
My dear apologies for excluding the other channels, I realize the ways of my errors... but fact remains that there is still floods of spamming. So I said if some of you didn't like it, you can change districts. Yes, that's right. Isn't that easier than complaining in multiple threads in multiple forums just to get Anet's attention so they can change something? What's easier? The change of a district or hours wasted on typing text to get Anet's attention? How many emails/complaints/threads-to-get-Anet's-attention do you think springs up everyday? I don't think I have to do research on this one.
Quote:
ps. i dont care if the bots are run by chinese brits or americans, the fact remains GW/Anet does little or nothing to stop them other than nerfing areas weeks after they have been farmed 24/7, thus penalising fair farmers who actually dont use bots.
|
P.S. Read the second-to-last line of my previous paragraph. I agree though, that it is pretty sad that Anet has to reduce to nerfing an area just because of farmers/botters. Hey, you never know, maybe if there's a massive decrease of players emailing for support, complaining, and trying to get Anet's attention, maybe their development team can use some of that saved time to come up with a scheme to ruin professional farmers/botters.
Quote:
Why do you think there wont be a person watching the machines with bot programs running, ready to respond like a player if the bot ever gets questioned etc. (one player could watch a number of machines to make sure the bots are working and to make it appear like they are actualy real players). Maybe instead of blindly believing Anet are doing anything, but refuse to ever tell us what they have done you should use your head, take a look, do a little research etc. And return with an informed oppinion rather than one that seems is made purely to tell anyone who dislikes the fact that GW is plagued by bot users to go eat their own words cos their not bots at all, and they dont effect anyones game.
|
Hmm. You make it sound like you know how bots work. Or, are you just pulling these 'facts' from a rabbit's hat? Rather than jumping to conclusions about how I think, why don't you give me an expert analysis of how significantly these farmers/botters/people affect the enjoyment of GW, and solid proof that ALL of these are not real players? And you do not have to worry, I use my head everyday.
No links, please. -Swampgirl

i dont know...it just kind of annoys me that they come over in our districts and get our resources/money 24/7 and reduce the amount we get, and arent even penalized for it..maybe im just still sore over europe having favor for the past month it seems like (though we did for a while last night)
|
What they do with their time is none of your business and it doesn't affect you in anyway. It doesn't stop you from playing. You're drops will decrease if YOU farm in 1 location too much. It has nothing to do with anyone else. With your logic NO ONE would be able to find anything anywhere if EVERY SINGLE PLACE was crowded with farmers human or bot. They don't annoy anyone. In fact it's probably the other way around.

Anyone doubting that there is bot farmers in droks, check this out. This was about 10 mins after the servers come back up from the maintenance.
No posting names - Swampgirl
I counted 20 Mo/W all called long something and none would give a reply even though a lot of different people were saying things to them. I'd always been unsure about bots but that is proof to me. I dont care what anyone says...that is no standard guild meeting up.
Anet should take note of all those account names and monitor/stop them.

I had my monk at Droknar's Forge last night and was getting pissed because of all of these idiots asking me if I was a bot. I just ignored them. Oh, by the way, my IGN is 'Long Fellow'.
Seriously, wouldn't you get a little tired of people constantly whispering you asking if you were a bot when you're doing some farming? Would you respond to each and every one (or any, for that matter)?

And you had another 19 people all with the same sort of name, same profs and sharing the same few guilds with you too? No didnt think you did.

to me i dun really care if they ban the bots are not there just free power lvling to me =P. another thing, like gunbound why dun they spend ppl who read on fourms to search for realsed bot or any cheating program, look into there coding then patch it so if any bot or any 3rd party program is realsed to the public it would be patched. shure dosen't kill all the botters but a good % is better than nuthin, only like a 10 secs download update anyways

What I get a kick out of is people who are ignorant enough to think "stop whining...my farming doesn't interfere with anyone else way of playing". Guess what? YES IT DOES. It already has been proven that excessive farming does have a negetive impact on the economy and now that I know that the economies between the different servers are all one economy, then people should care about what other nations are doing. There has been a quote posted atleast twice on these forums taken from an ANet employee durring an interview that specifically says excessive farming brings in a surplus of gold affecting prices as a whole....this forces others to farm just to keep up.

Well, I had hoped that by starting my second comment with 'seriously' that you might pick up the fact that I was being sarcastic. Oh well...
My point remains the same, however - someone not responding to whispers does not make them a bot.

We have alot of idiots who feel they should be part of a policing force or atleast do what's right. Then again, alot of people just can't mind their own damn business and get on w/ the game. If you feel that its affecting the economy, then do something around it and make your own fortune, bitching online wont help you, honestly it wont. The only thing these "bots" are doing is allowing more items to be available ingame therefore less rarity and prices are driven lower, last time I checked, thats a good thing. Alot of these complainers are mainly mad cause they can't sell their crap anymore, they can't get money. Its more incentive based really, not for the good of the game.
If you go to international district, its your own damn fault. Yes in american districts its getting worse, but honestly, you can find your way around it, its not hard.

I just did it with my lvl 16 female mesmer...funny as all get out.
Sad thing is, these guys are not that great. Then again, maybe I was messing with his routine. But I am sure he took me because I was playing a girl. I would post a ss but I'm too lazy.
After 2 runs I got this,
Sweatshop Farmer: kiss
Swaetshop Farmer: lol
Sweatshop Farmer: love Kiss
I had to laugh.

This is where all the EBay Gold must come from!
It was amazing to be in Droks international district 1, stand by the front door and watch my radar map - endless streams of Wammo's and mostly monks came running for the front door.
Watching, it seems like all they do is troll farming. Rinse and repeat ad nausem.
The message spamming in chinese (or whatever) was so fast that if it were in english I could not have read it. Obviously a hot little market place going on.
At $60 per million GW gold you have to kill a lot of trolls to make a living.
BTW: Several english speaking people there buying stuff also, everybody wants a piece of the action.

20 characters, same class, names all start with the same thing? WOW, BOT ALERT!!!
How about not. People have done similar things before. For what? FUN. Maybe they wanted to trick gullible people like you. :P But since you said you don't care what anyone says, I'll stop trying to bring common sense into this.
EDIT: Also, they seem like really effective bots. You know, just standing there in town doing nothing...
